Are your summer holidays coming to an end? One of the most annoying things after a vacation, other than having to go back to your everyday life, is seeing how quickly the tan can fade. We've all been there: you're golden and lustrous while sitting at the beach, and the moment you step off the plane, your skin looks dull and three shades lighter. So what can you do to make your tan last longer? Here are some tips and beauty products to maintain a healthy and long-lasting tan!
The key to prolonging the life of your tan is to moisturize your skin. The sun dries out the skin so it is important to always keep it hydrated before, during and after sun exposure. Look for rich, nourishing and emollient body and face creams formulated with aloe vera, shea butter, glycerin or hyaluronic acid. Also choose products rich in natural oils, like argan, prickly pear or linseed, which will deeply nourish your skin and help it stay healthy and soft. We recommend our Nourishing Body Cream, that gives dry skin a dose of healthy hydration.
Showering under hot water can strip your skin of its natural oils and make it drier. And we all know that dry skin = a tan that "peels". Keep the temperature of the shower low to prolong the life of your tan.
While it may seem strange, for a tan to last (and fade gradually, rather than in patches) you need to exfoliate your skin. In fact, when it is exposed to the sun, the epidermis thickens to defend itself from the sun's rays. Dead skin cells - found on the skin's surface - could make your skin look dull. It is therefore important that these are gently removed to obtain brighter and more oxygenated skin. So don't worry, the melanin in your skin cells (what actually makes your skin tan) won't be affected by exfoliating scrubs or creams. Use our Smoothing and Anti-aging Scrub Butter twice a week and your skin will look smooth and super healthy.
4) DRINK LOTS OF WATER
Yes, you guessed it. As with any other beauty trick, drinking plenty of water is essential for good skin health, cell turnover, and everything associated with maintaining a glowing, golden tan. So remember to drink at least 2 liters of water a day! The same goes for a healthy diet: choose foods rich in beta-carotene, mineral salts and natural antioxidants.
Finally, do you think your tan has lost its shine? Choose illuminating creams and serums to give your skin an extra boost of radiance! Our secret weapon is definitely the Illuminating Serum, rich in vitamin C, hyaluronic Acid and antioxidants. Use this product morning and night and your skin will glow even if you're back from your holidays.
